Musical Numbers: Songs About Math Written
by Children
In the true meaning of collaboration and integration between
content areas, the University of Southern Maine in Lewiston-Auburn
is working with local elementary schools in guiding students
to compose songs based on mathematics concepts. The
children work with music and mathematics instructors and
teachers to research content areas and write words and music
describing the various concepts. The songs are then
recorded on CDs and the music is printed for distribution
to other local schools. This session will describe
the initial phases of the project which began in January
2007.
- Describe the initial phases of the project
- Think about ways of transfering the knowledge gained
to their own schools and colleges.
- Contribute ideas that will help the project in its next
phases.
- Develop a network where the products of the project can
be shared.
