Creative Extension: Opening the University to People of Differing
Abilities
This session shares
a creative Chilean program for young people who have slight
cognitive disabilities that make it difficult for them
to get access to regular higher education. The program
is divided in two years. The first year is an active exploration
of abilities and interests. The second year deepens the
development of concrete abilities by inserting these young
people into protected labor atmospheres, in companies compatible
to their different abilities. The project examines the
viability of this type of program in the university atmosphere,
the impact on the university community, and the benefit
for these young people from the academic point of view.
